I'd forgotten how good this place is for middle eastern (Mediterranean) food. I'd been here many years ago for an association meeting. Liked it so much that I brought my husband here for a meal. We've been a time or two since, but not in many, many years. This time, we came for a late dinner.

There is an attached lot and we found a parking spot right in front. The lot can get busy at certain times.

They start you off with some pita and a dish of zaatar spices topped with sesame seeds. You add in some olive oil (I like to add some salt, too) and mix it together. Dipping the pita in the spice mixture keeps you munching while deciding what you want to order.

They have a full bar, but we both opted for lemonade. They have various coffees and teas, too.

I was surprised that they were still fairly full as it was a bit late in the evening. A large group of gals were celebrating a birthday, a family with a couple young kids, a group of business folks dining together, another older couple, and the two gay guys sitting behind us who were on their first date together. They have some limited outside seating as well and there was a large family group at a table that we passed on the way out.

We decided to share their Ferdo's Sampler Platter (listed under appetizers). It was wonderful. Some of the best fresh hummus I've had in quite sometime -- creamy smooth chickpeas; a delicious slightly chunky baba-ghanouj (ghanoush?). You could taste the smokiness of the roast eggplant in the purée mixed with lemon and tahini and topped with olive oil. There were two fried felafel balls to dip in the small dish of tehina. I'd substituted the meat filled grape leaves for the veggie ones. These were excellent. The vine leaves were tender. They were stuffed and rolled around a mix of lamb and soft rice with spices. They were served hot. You could taste the lemony flavor of the broth and olive oil they were cooked in. All this was served over a bed of refreshing fatoush salad -- lots of parsley and crispy pita pieces mixed in with the red onions, and salad greens. We were pretty full after just this, but decided to add in a bit more protein.

We ordered their fried smelts. The basket of small fish served whole (no heads) was crispy and served piping hot with a side dish of lemon sauce for dipping. If you like them, these were perfect. Small enough to eat entirely without worrying about any bones.

We were too full even by then to try their version of one of our favorite middle eastern desserts (knafeh). We left saying we should come back much sooner...

Such a hidden gem. It's right on US 1, and I would always pass it and think nothing of it. One night we decided to just try something new, and we ended up finding one of our favorite local Mediterranean spots.

Ferdos has the best hummus I've ever had. It is so creamy and smooth.  Every time we go, I order a hummus to go (which usually only lasts me a day or two because I devour it!).

Plenty of fresh options and vegan and vegetarian options. I enjoy their veggie kabob and garlic sauce. The sampler appetizer platter has fabulous grape leaves, falafel, and hummus.  My husband gets the chicken sandwich and never tried anything else because he loves it so much.

They have live belly dancing entertainment on the weekends, so it's cute to see parties enjoy and interact with the dancer.  Family owned and operated--the wife of the owner has been our server and is very kind and welcoming! Happy to support such a delicious local gem.

We had been looking for good Mediterranean food in Ft. Lauderdale and tried Ferdos for the first time this evening. The menu was extensive, reasonably priced, and included full enteee selections (which includes a large helping of delicious rice and an equally large portion of fresh steamed vegetables) and a number of delicious sounding sandwiches. Many appetizers and salads are also available. We chose two different kabob selections and both were outstanding and more than we could finish. The wait staff was also kind and pleasant. What an outstanding and healthy dining experience
